Mr. Don Rhodes

Hello EHEMS community!  My name is Don Rhodes and it is with great pleasure and excitement that I write this introduction to you as the newly appointed Principal of East Hardy Early Middle School.

I grew up in Weirton, WV and graduated from Weir High School in 1991.

I have been married to my wife, Cathy, for 15 years. She is currently a 6th grade Science teacher and is starting her 19th year teaching.  We have 3 children: Mark, Christian, and Nicholas.

Mark and his wife, Cara, just celebrated their one- year anniversary and are expecting their first child (our first grandbaby!!!) in February.  Christian is in 8th grade and Nicholas is in 4th grade.

I graduated from Potomac State College in 1994 with my Associate’s degree in Agriculture, WVU in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Education, and a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from WVU in 2002.

During my free time, I love to spend time with my family, as an assistant scout master for my son’s Boy Scout troop, and working out. Before arriving to EHEMS, I taught Agriculture/AgriScience for 10 years at the middle school level and 5 years at the high school level.

Finally, my educational philosophy is reinforced by a quote by Howard Gardner, known for his theory of multiple intelligences. He once said, “Know as much as you can about the kids rather than make them pass through the same eye of the needle”.  This means that in order to maximize students’ educational potential, we need to provide ALL students with individual learning opportunities.  Therefore, we must offer multiple instructional strategies that help students connect to the higher learning objectives.
